Resources for Musicians
Getting your Music Heard
As a musician who is trying to establish himself professionally, I understand the importance of getting your music heard by the right people. Who are the right people? That’s a question you have to answer for yourself based on what it is that you are trying to accomplish with your music. For me, as a composer interested in music for visual mediums, the right people are producers, directors, music editors and folks in charge of selecting music for music libraries. If you are an artist trying to promote you band and your songs, then the right people could be considered your fans, record producers/companies and possibly even music libraries that cater to film/television. There are many right people, depending on what you are specifically trying to accomplish.
I’m going to list some of the ways that I’ve found to be most helpful in facilitating getting my music heard.
Reverb Nation
Reverb Nation is a great web service that has some very helpful tools to help you spread your music around the internet. I use there services everywhere. The bulk of their tools are free and will save you a lot of time and energy in keeping up with all the important places you should have your music placed. I highly recommend them. Taxi
Taxi is an independent A/R company that helps independent artists, songwriters and composers to get record, publishing and film/tv deals. You might have seen their ads in some of the music publications you read. They charge a yearly membership fee and a small fee for submitting to a regularly updated set of industry listings. In my experience, they are the real deal are well worth the fees they charge. They have personally helped me to land some major deals that I would have never had a chance at otherwise. I really like this company and the people involved and have no reservations recommending them to anyone who is looking for current opportunities to get their music heard. Visit their website to see what they’re all about. You should at least check out theĀ monthly industry listings to get a sense of who they work with and what those people need. www.taxi.com
Taxi’s Music Forums
The company so nice, I’m listing it twice. No, I don’t work for Taxi and I don’t get any kickbacks for talking them up. If I didn’t really believe that they are a valuable resource, I wouldn’t be mentioning them at all. Taxi’s music forum is a free site that any musician can utilize, you do not have to be a member of Taxi to participate on these boards. Whether you plan on joining Taxi or not, I highly recommend you check out these boards. There are some extremely talented musicians there who are constantly talking about any and all things music. It’s a place where you can post your music and get good honest feedback on your production, writing and playing. The environment is extremely friendly and the talented folks who participate on these boards are incredibly helpful. You’ll find me there a lot. So come and check out one of the world’s best kept music secrets. Visit the Taxi forum
