Talkin’ bout music
Guitar Playing
This talk is designed to be a companion piece to the Music Theory lessons. I don’t really want to get into traditional lessons on technique and licks and styles of playing. Instead, I’m planning on taking each of the ideas I’m going to introduce in the Music Theory lessons and showing you how I specifically apply them to the guitar. This is really going to all revolve around a little “device” that I first learned when I was starting out, which has proven to be extremely effective in simplifying applying music theory to the guitar.
Music Theory
This talk is going to made up of three different areas: beginner’s, intermediate and advanced theory. It is designed to be the companion to the Guitar Playing section and is where I’ll be expanding on the ideas I’m introducing in my guitar talks. For those of you out there who are not Guitar players, I’m going to make this Theory section stand alone so that it makes sense and is useful by itself.
Composition
This discussion will revolve around interesting techniques and ideas that relate to music composition. This will somewhat compliment the Intermediate and Advanced theory discussions, in that harmony, melody and chord theory are integral to learning to understand and compose in various different styles of music.
Orchestration
This discussion is dedicated to writing for the Orchestra. This topic is wide open for others to contribute to. If you have any instructional information that pertains to this topic, please don’t hesitate to get involved . In this area, I also want to discuss specific pieces of music to analyze and explore the orchestration techniques that are used in them. If you are a blogger, or simply want to write an article that relates to any of these areas, feel free to sign up, or contact me and I’ll post your article’s here.
